  • Wisdom of the American Founders

A careful analysis of U.S. history reveals that virtually every serious problem now confronting American society can be traced to a departure from the sound principles taught by these great statesmen. ---Jay A. Parry, National Center for Constitutional Studies

    • Union’s Expect Obama Payback - Seek to End Secret Ballots February 23, 2009
Updated Guest Editorial | On Tuesday’s Glenn Beck Show, a discouraging statistic was shown. In 1999, all government spending as a portion of our national GNP was 33%. In 2009, that number stands at 39%. An astonishing number when you consider that the United States produces over $14 trillion in goods and services annually.  If that [...]

  • CANNOT HALF-HEARTEDLY SUPPORT CONSTITUTION

I am not partly for the Constitution, and partly against it; I am wholly for it. I disdain the character of an uncommitted man. I am committed, fully committed to the constitution. And i am committed against everything which, in my judgment, may weaken, endanger, or destroy it. And especially against all extension of executive power; and any attempt to rule the free people of this country by the power and the patronage of the government itself. --- Daniel Webster
  • Liberty Requires Property

The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. Property must be secured, or liberty cannot exist. ---John Adams

    • Anarchy, the institution of Government, and self-governance. March 21, 2009
I just recently listened again to a talk on the FEE podcast entitled “Self-Governance.” As I was listening the speaker, who is a self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist, gave Somalia as an example of how anarchy can sometimes be a better option than government. He described a graph where one axis is some “best-to-worst” scale of both optio […]

  • First Duty of Citizens

It is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties. We hold this prudent jealousy to be the first duty of citizens, and one of the noblest characteristics of the late Revolution. The freemen of America did not wait till usurped power had strengthened itself by exercise, and entangled the question in precedents. They saw all the consequences in the principle, and they avoided the consequences by denying the principle. ---James Madison

Begin

“Just begin. The rest is easy.”

I know, I know. But this really is the most difficult part. In swimming workouts, the hardest part was always getting wet. In asking girls on dates, it’s always dialing the number. And in writing it is always, “Hmm, what do I write about? What’s the first word?”

And here I am, writing the first word. And things get easier from here.

Since this is my first blog, I don’t care how silly it is or how informal. I’m just writing it down. Oh, that reminds me: Don’t get it right. Get it written. I can get it right later on. Some day this entry will be buried under later blogs of much more interesting conversation (I hope).

Well then, for starters. I am writing this blog for many reasons: to connect with the world; to share my thoughts and experiences; to communicate in a way I haven’t done yet; to motivate me to write—and hopefully well. Why else? I’m sure there are hundreds of reasons. I’ll stick with these. Others might get me in trouble.

Ha, Ha! These might get me in trouble! What am I thinking?

Anyway, what might you find on here? Here’s a list.

Poetry
Short stories
Essays
Political discussions
Rants about scarcity and abundance
Principles govern
News
Religious discussion
Humor
Sadness
(not so) Personal Items
Swimming
Chess
Running
Biking
Travelling
Family Life
Friends and relatives
Life, Death, and all that stuff in between

Who knows, you may also find a recipe or two from time to time.

Here, it’s all whatever floats my boat. So come on over, (or not) and enjoy.

Whew! Now that I’ve begun, the rest will be easy.
